About Milltown Marina

Vancouver’s newest marina is located in Vancouver’s historic Marpole neighbourhood, just south of Granville Street and SW Marine Drive. This ideal location provides boaters with an easily accessible and convenient moorage facility. Drive, boat or fly in with the airport only a 10 minute taxi ride away.

Milltown Marina is located six nautical miles from where the mouth of the North Arm of the Fraser River meets the Strait of Georgia. The location is perfect for fast and easy access to recreational boating waters. With our first class in water moorage as well as our drystack facility we can accommodate boats from 10 to 80 feet!

A joint venture between the Musqueam Capital Corporation, Captain Matthew Cote and David Black (of Victoria BC), Milltown Marina is designed to incorporate Transport Canada’s environmental best practices while creating a state-of-the-art recreational boating facility.

The Milltown Marina community includes repair and maintenance facility, marine store, yacht sales and a full service restaurant. Milltown Marina also offers transient moorage at a rate of $1.50/ft per day.

“If you want a great place to moor your boat this is the place for you! Location is perfect, Vancouverand the ocean! A short trip down the river to the Straight of Georgia! The modern concrete docks are stable. The marina is out of the river current and there are no irritating boat wakes. Power is stable, unlike some marinas. If you feel like an evening out or don’t want to cook, Milltown Bar & Grill is on sight. Excellent food!”

Our Team

Captain Matthew Cote – Director

After retiring from real estate development in Whistler where he developed several major projects, Matthew went on to further his boating interests by earning a MCA commercial captain’s license and commanding a number of large yachts globally.  In 2010 he returned to Vancouver bringing with him what he had learned from both the development and yachting industries to pursue his interest in developing a marina in Vancouver.

Matthew researched waterways across the Lower Mainland for a suitable location, including what was then known as Richmond Island in Marpole, on the north arm of the Fraser River.  Coincidentally his family roots were nearby, growing up in Marpole in a well known sailing family, who in the 1980’s, rented a nearby warehouse and designed and built a 41’ racing sailboat there that they named Milltown… hence the name of the Marina.

Relying on both his development experience and firsthand understanding of marinas around the world, both good and bad,  Matthew’s goal in overseeing the design of Milltown was to provide a state of the art facility while transforming our location’s previous sawmill and log storage operations to a highly productive marine environment . This is evident through the dramatic results of the environmental remediation, conveniences and features of Milltown marina.

Matthew’s mandate for himself and his staff, is that Milltown Marina operate at a high standard of customer service. To that end, his door is always open to members of our Milltown community.

Breton White – Office Manager

Growing up with a captain as a father, Breton has been on the water since before she could walk (her parents rigged her Jolly Jumper so she could cruise up and down the length of their family Bayliner). Her early-developed passion for the water led her to go on to join the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets where she learned to sail dinghies. She spent her teens racing Laser’s & 420’s and later moved into coaching junior sailing at the Jericho Sail Centre. These days, you’re most likely to catch Breton at the helm or in the pit of a keelboat in English Bay (when she’s not at Milltown, of course). Breton enjoys sailing in beautiful British Columbia but dreams of completing an ocean crossing someday soon…

Lori Stromberg – Dock Mom

Lori and her husband, Philip, have moored their boat at Milltown since the marina opened in 2013. Lori and her family enjoy escaping every chance they get on their 45’ Mainship, Verboaten. They have made countless trips over the years to secret coves nestled up the coast of British Columbia. Need suggestions for your weekend getaway on the boat? Ask Lori! Around Milltown, Lori has earned a reputation as ‘Dock Mom’ as she’s always making sure our customers & staff are looked after. Lori consistently goes above and beyond to make sure your stay at Milltown is enjoyable and flawless.

Our Values

Community

We find that most of our customers feel a responsibility to be a ‘good neighbor’ and support this way of thinking by trying to lead by example through our interaction with our team members and customers.  We encourage boaters to have a mutual respect for each other with regards to noise levels in the Marina and look out for the safety of their fellow neighbours whilst out on the water.  To bring our community together we hold summer barbeques, festive light competitions and promote the Milltown Bar & Grill event nights. Take a look at our Events Calendar to get involved.

Environmental

We understand that environmental responsibility is an ongoing process and recognize that the importance of maintaining a clean natural environment is fundamental to our business. Therefore, we have since adopted the Clean Marine Environmental BC Best Practices guidelines.  We encourage our clients and fellow BC boaters to take these ideas into consideration when at our marina and others.  Please take pride in our Marina by not only familiarising yourself with this advice, but acting on it! Pop by the office to talk with our staff about suggestions to do your part or read over our handbook.  Find out more about our local issues.
